Arctic Adventure News
I have designed
and built this website for Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex and the Ayrshire
Junior Snowsports Club as part of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. I am
now taking my skills that I have learned from all my Duke of Edinburgh
sections and going to the Arctic for four weeks this summer with the British
Schools Exploring Society (BSES Expeditions). I was recently selected
for this once in a lifetime experience to visit the Arctic for four weeks
for a scientific research Expedition.
is a youth development charity that organises challenging scientific expeditions
to remote, wild environments to develop the confidence, teamwork, leadership
and spirit of adventure and exploration of its Young Explorers.
I will spend 4 weeks on one of most northerly and remotest island in the world with around 48 other people. While we are there we get the choice of studying Glaciology, Geology, Hydrology or Meteorology. This research will help show how climate change is affecting our polar regions on the Earth. The research phase of the expedition will take up most of the 4 weeks. The rest of the time will be for arctic adventure and survival skills. There will be the opportunity for ice wall climbing, glacier trekking, mountaineering and snow shoeing. All this will allow us to travel further away from base camp to do our research.
If you like to sponsor me please visit Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex where a donation tin and sponsor sheet will be available. Or alternatively contact me by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org
or phone Margaret on 01560 320022
